Save vs. Spend - When Is It Time to Call In Professional Organizers?

Three Rules of Work: Out of clutter find simplicity; From discord find harmony; In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” – Albert Einstein

We think this is an excellent place to start the discussion about whether or not it’s time for you to call in a professional organizer, perhaps a Master Consultant in the KonMari Method®. Out of clutter, a professional organizer can find harmony.

A simpler life will make you happier and feel less overwhelmed.

A less stressful life leads to more harmony, the second part of Einstein’s statement, causing fewer confrontations with the people sharing your space. In the KonMari Method®, you “tidy” only your things, not the things of others. Not your spouse’s things. Really, not even your children’s things. The only time to tidy other people’s things is in the komono (miscellaneous) category, such as in the kitchen and living areas. “How does this improve harmony, if you’re the only one tidying your things?” people ask. Typically, as one person tidies their things, the method rubs off on the entire family, and soon everyone is getting in on the act.

The KonMari Method® allows others in your family to follow your example. You don’t point fingers; you don’t place blame. You just set your boundaries and start working on your things. Others will eventually see your efforts.

In the Middle - Your Opportunity to Decide

In the middle, as Einstein says, lies the opportunity. This is the opportunity to take back your power, to decide how you want to approach your home, and whether it’s time to call in someone or go it alone. It is in this middle area that we have the freedom to choose.

We’ve read articles, lots of them, about decluttering and organizing on your own. We discussed this in an earlier blog titled, How Do I Organize and Declutter By Myself? The key element of that blog is knowing your motivation and envisioning your ideal life. Can you see your ideal life with the hours and energy you have available, or do you need a helping hand?

Most people don’t have the time to declutter and organize on their own, plain, and simple. They work a long day, raise kids, cook dinner, feed the pets, take their kids to soccer practice, and everything in between. Where do the tasks of cleaning out a closet, kitchen, drawers, laundry room, garage…the list goes on, fit into that schedule? Another question to ask yourself is whether you have the guts, because it does take guts, to face the mound of things that need sorting, tidying, and putting away.

Can’t get ahead of the curve? Call a professional organizer.

If you’re in a position where you just can’t get ahead of the curve and you want more personal control of your life and your things, it’s time to call in a decluttering and organizing specialist. Said a different way: when you run a fever day after day and Tylenol isn’t working, do you go to the doctor? Or, acupuncturist, or the provider in charge of your healthcare? Of course, because you need help! Why is hiring a decluttering and organizing expert any different?

Is it money that’s holding you back from getting professional organizing help? Well, think again. Most often, as the saying goes, “time is money.” And when you have more time, you have more opportunities to pursue your career and life goals. And you’re happier. In the end, you’ve invested in yourself by calling in someone to help get your things and life in order. It pays you back in spades!

Whether you choose to pursue the KonMari Method® or a different way to handle your clutter (maybe as a family instead of personally), getting your things in order will make a tremendous difference in your life. We are versed not only in Marie Kondo’s teachings, but in multiple ways to approach decluttering and organizing. Everyone and every situation is different.
